USS EMMONS

USS Emmons Dive Experience

Description

The USS Emmons is a historic shipwreck located off the coast of Kouri Island, Okinawa. Resting at a depth of 40 to 45 meters, the wreck offers divers an unparalleled underwater adventure, blending history with natural beauty. This well-preserved site is a must-visit for experienced divers seeking a unique and challenging dive.

Commissioned in 1941, the USS Emmons was a Gleaves-class destroyer that served during World War II. On April 6, 1945, while supporting the Allied invasion of Okinawa, the ship came under attack by a fleet of Japanese kamikaze planes. Despite the crew’s valiant efforts, the ship was struck multiple times, leading to catastrophic damage. To prevent the ship from falling into enemy hands, the surviving crew scuttled the vessel, and it now rests as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made during the war.

The dive includes two dives, each lasting about 20 to 25 minutes due to the depth. Between dives, we return to the port for surface intervals to ensure safety and comfort.
